Registered Nurse - ER/Trauma

Shift Type: Nights, 12-hour shifts (night shift), exact start/end times not specified; 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks; guaranteed 36 hours per week; night shift/overnight (NOC)

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality emergency and trauma nursing care in a fast-paced Level 1 Trauma ER, keeping patient safety front and center
  • Perform trauma assessments, triage, and rapid interventions for a wide range of diagnoses including trauma and burns
  • Maintain sterile technique and perform skills such as Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes as validated in SIMs Lab
  • Read and interpret telemetry strips and monitor patients using Phillips telemetry systems
  • Document patient care thoroughly using the Cerner EMR so the team has clear, timely information
  • Collaborate with charge RNs, physicians, RTs, pharmacists, and IV teams to coordinate efficient patient care
  • Float between ER campuses when needed and adapt quickly to different unit workflows and equipment
  • Participate in required competency checks, pass/fail orientation assessments, and unit-based education (lifts, restraints, wound care)
Knowledge & Skills
  • Emergency and trauma clinical judgment and rapid assessment skills
  • Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring familiarity (Phillips systems)
  • Proficient in Cerner EMR documentation and workflows
  • Sterile field maintenance and central line/port-a-cath care
  • Foley catheter insertion and competency in common ER procedures
  • Ability to work in a 1:4 ratio environment and manage high patient volumes
  • Comfort with pediatric transfers and trauma/burn patient populations
  • Teamwork with multidisciplinary teams including RT, pharmacy, hospitalists/intensivists
