Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (ER RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ER RN) for a critical access facility located in Townshend, Vermont. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive emergency care within a small, rural community setting, serving a diverse patient population.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients presenting with a wide range of medical and trauma emergencies. This position requires an experienced ER RN capable of independent practice and critical decision-making in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation, for patients across all age groups in the Emergency Department.
  • Stabilize and manage critically ill or injured patients, utilizing advanced nursing skills and emergency protocols.
  • Administer medications, perform treatments, and operate medical equipment in accordance with physician orders and established standards of care.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of all patient care activities.
  • Educate patients and their families regarding medical conditions, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Prior experience in an Emergency Department setting, preferably within a critical access or rural hospital environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse patient population and varying acuity levels.

  • Proficiency in emergency nursing procedures, including triage, wound care, splinting, and medication administration.
  • Competence in operating emergency medical equipment such as cardiac monitors, defibrillators, ventilators, and IV pumps.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for effective patient and team interaction.
  • Ability to work autonomously and adapt quickly to changing patient conditions and departmental needs.

Shift Details
  • Shift Type: Nights (NOC)
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, typically 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM.
  • Days per week: 3 shifts per week.
  • Weekend Rotation: Expected to work some weekends as part of the regular rotation.
  • Flexibility: Required to be flexible and available to work occasional day or mid-shifts as needed to meet departmental demands.
  • Block Scheduling: Efforts will be made to accommodate block scheduling requests, but cannot be guaranteed.
  • Assignment Length: 12 weeks.
  • Start Date: August 25, 2026.
Licensing Requirements
  • Current unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Vermont.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification (highly preferred).
