Candidates will encounter a wide variety of patients, from newborns to the elderly. The department handles various complaints, including critical cases such as strokes and heart attacks. Nurses may care for trauma patients once stabilized and transferred to a pod. Experience with general nursing skills and required certifications is essential. Proficiency in managing critical patients and understanding complex drips is expected. The unit has a minimum of three attending physicians present at all times. Charge nurses assist with incoming patients and departmental needs but do not routinely take teams. The department has emergency department technicians to support nursing efforts. Nurses are expected to interpret rhythms and manage telemonitoring. Lab draws may be performed by nurses as well as designated technicians. The schedule consists of 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday requirements. There are no on-call obligations for this position. Travelers may occasionally float to other units, but this is rare. The department supports teamwork and flexibility among staff. Nurses should wear tasteful scrubs with solid-colored shirts.
