Job Summary
Join the dedicated team at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York, as a Registered Nurse in their Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). This 64-bed unit, which includes 15 designated neurological beds, provides comprehensive care to adult patients (18 years and older) facing a variety of complex medical conditions.
The IMCU specializes in managing patients with neurological conditions, cardiac issues, trauma, respiratory illnesses such as COPD, DKA, sepsis, myocardial infarction (MI), cardiovascular step-down, and various post-operative care needs. As an integral part of the nursing team, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a dynamic environment, utilizing advanced monitoring and life support equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adult patients with diverse and complex medical conditions, including neurological, cardiac, and respiratory diagnoses.
- Monitor and manage patients requiring specialized equipment such as temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, arterial lines, and BiPAP.
- Care for patients on chronic ventilators, collaborating closely with Respiratory Therapy for optimal patient outcomes.
- Administer medications, perform comprehensive patient assessments, and accurately document patient status and interventions.
- Collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Float to other units within the facility as required by patient census and operational needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
- Proficiency in the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Experience caring for adult patient populations (18 years and older).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous travel nursing experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac monitoring, ventilator management (chronic vents), arterial line insertion/management, chest tube management, temporary pacemaker management, BiPAP administration, DKA management, sepsis management, post-operative care.
- Equipment: Temporary pacemakers, Chest tubes, Arterial lines, BiPAP machines, Neptune Vapo system.
- Soft Skills: Strong critical thinking, excellent communication (verbal and written), ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-acuity environment, adaptability, teamwork, and patient advocacy.

Licensing Requirements
- Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
