Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Labor & Delivery unit at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Rockford, Illinois. This role is critical for providing comprehensive care to high-risk labor and delivery patients, encompassing antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum phases.

The successful candidate will be responsible for utilizing the full nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. This includes collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, administering medications and treatments, developing individualized patient care plans, and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments safely and accurately, adhering to approved nursing techniques, facility policies, procedures, and state practice acts.
  • Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient plans of care, including comprehensive patient and family education.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in accordance with established standards of care.
  • Actively participate in departmental or unit performance improvement activities, including shared governance initiatives.
  • Provide clinical expertise and guidance to other units/departments as needed to support the patient’s longitudinal plan of care.
  • Employ critical thinking skills to ensure patient safety and optimal patient experience, escalating concerns appropriately through the chain of command.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in a high-risk Labor & Delivery unit within a Level 1 Trauma Center.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Illinois (IL) Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
