Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Emergency Department Registered Nurse for a travel assignment at MVHS-Wynn, located in Utica, New York. This role offers an opportunity to provide high-acuity care within a dynamic and comprehensive emergency setting.
The Emergency Department is a 64-bed unit, structured with dedicated areas for Triage (2 beds), Acute care (40 beds), Super Track (6 beds), Trauma (2 beds), Clinical Decision Unit (CDU - 10 beds), and Psychiatric care (6 beds). The successful candidate will manage a diverse patient population ranging from newborns and pediatrics to adults and geriatrics, presenting with a wide array of critical conditions including stroke, sepsis, trauma, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.
This position requires a highly skilled RN capable of rapid assessment, critical thinking, and proficient management of complex medical emergencies in a fast-paced environment. The role involves comprehensive patient care, advanced medication administration, and the use of specialized emergency equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, high-quality nursing care to patients across the lifespan in a fast-paced Emergency Department.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, implement interventions, and evaluate patient outcomes.
- Manage and stabilize patients presenting with acute and critical conditions such as stroke, sepsis, trauma, MI, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.
- Administer and titrate a wide range of critical medications, including pressors, vasodilators, anti-arrhythmics, and sedatives.
- Operate and monitor specialized emergency equipment, including Rapid Infusors and Arctic Sun.
- Accurately document all patient care activities, assessments, and interventions using the EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Float to other units within the facility as required by patient census and acuity.
Required Qualifications
- Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent, acute care experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.
- Demonstrated experience providing care to pediatric patients within an Emergency Department.
- Prior travel nursing experience is mandatory.
- Proficiency in using EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience and demonstrated capability in a Charge Nurse role.
Skills & Competencies
- Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac life support, basic life support, pediatric advanced life support, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessment, trauma nursing care.
- Equipment Proficiency: Rapid Infusor, Arctic Sun.
- Medication Management: Expert knowledge and administration of critical drips including but not limited to Levophed, Neo, Epi, Vasopressin, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Cleviprex, Cardene, NTG, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lido, Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, TNK, Heparin, and Insulin.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional critical thinking, rapid assessment and decision-making, strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to perform effectively under pressure, adaptability, and teamwork.

- Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
