Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Travel Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) for a dynamic 64-bed unit located in Utica, New York. This fast-paced environment includes 2 Triage rooms, 40 acute care beds, 6 super track beds, 2 trauma bays, 10 Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) beds, and 6 psychiatric beds. The patient population is diverse, ranging from newborns and pediatrics to adults and geriatrics, presenting with a wide array of conditions including stroke, sepsis, trauma, myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive, high-quality patient care in a high-acuity setting. This role requires rapid assessment, critical thinking, and the ability to manage complex cases efficiently and effectively.
This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a dedicated healthcare team, providing essential emergency services to the community while adapting to varying patient needs and departmental demands, including floating to other units as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care, performing comprehensive assessments, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients across the lifespan in the Emergency Department.
- Manage and stabilize patients presenting with critical conditions such as stroke, sepsis, trauma, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.
- Administer a wide range of medications and titrate critical drips, including vasopressors, vasodilators, anti-arrhythmics, sedatives, TNK, Heparin, and Insulin.
- Operate and monitor specialized equipment such as Rapid Infusors and Arctic Sun.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and optimal patient outcomes.
- Accurately document all patient care activities, observations, and interventions in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Float to other units within the facility as required by patient census and departmental needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent, acute care experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.
- Demonstrated experience providing care to pediatric patients within an ED environment.
- Prior travel nursing experience is required.
- Ability to meet travel requirements for the assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Charge Nurse capability is highly preferred.

- Clinical Skills: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) principles, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessment, critical care drip management (e.g., Levophed, Neo, Epi, Vasopressin, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Cleviprex, Cardene, NTG, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lido, Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, TNK, Heparin, Insulin).
- Equipment Proficiency: Rapid Infusor, Arctic Sun.
- EMR Proficiency: EPIC.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional critical thinking, rapid assessment, effective communication, strong organizational skills, ability to perform under pressure, adaptability, and teamwork.

Licensing Requirements
- Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
