Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities.
The RN focuses on prevention of illness and injury, as well as alleviating suffering.
Responsibilities include the diagnosis and treatment of human responses and advocacy in care.
The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with established standards of practice.
The role requires adherence to regulatory requirements and organizational policies.
The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care.
Management of a group of patients is expected, serving as a primary or accountable nurse as designated.
Education of patients and families in health promotion and disease management is essential.
A working knowledge of pharmacology is necessary, with safe medication administration.
Shared responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization is required.
Participation in nursing shared governance and quality improvement initiatives is expected.
The RN must actively engage in professional development and continuing education.
Integration of nursing research and current evidence into practice is encouraged.
Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students is essential.
The RN may perform duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
