Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities.
This includes the prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response.
Advocacy in the care of individuals and families is a key responsibility of the RN.
The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development.
This is in accordance with state regulations and nursing policies.
A caring and healing environment for patient-centered care is promoted.
The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients.
They serve as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse based on unit assignments.
This includes consideration of factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact.
Patient and family education in health promotion and disease management using available resources is provided.
A working knowledge of pharmacology is utilized, and medications are administered safely.
The RN shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization.
They comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
Active participation in professional development and continuing nursing education is expected.
The RN integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice.
There is a responsibility to provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
Duties related to Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator roles may be assigned.
Additional responsibilities may also be assumed as needed.
