Job Summary
This role is for an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. The Emergency Department is a high-acuity, 64-bed unit, including dedicated areas for triage, acute care, super track, trauma, Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), and psychiatric patients.
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care to a diverse patient population ranging from newborns and pediatrics to adults and geriatrics, presenting with a wide array of critical conditions such as stroke, sepsis, trauma, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.
This position requires a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care in a fast-paced environment, including the ability to float to other units as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to a diverse population across all age groups (newborn, pediatric, adult, geriatric) within the Emergency Department.
- Manage patients presenting with critical conditions including stroke, sepsis, trauma, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.
- Administer a wide range of critical medications and drips, including pressors (e.g., Levophed, Neo, Epi), vasodilators (e.g., Cleviprex, Cardene), anti-arrhythmics (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone), and sedatives (e.g., Precedex, Propofol).
- Operate specialized equipment such as Rapid Infusors and Arctic Sun.
- Provide care to all assigned patients, including those requiring Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) services.
- Float to other units as required by facility needs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.
- Demonstrated experience caring for pediatric patients within an ED environment.
- Prior travel nursing experience is required.
- Proficiency with EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility location (Utica, NY) to qualify for travel assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Charge Nurse capability is highly preferred.

- Clinical Skills: Advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, trauma nursing, stroke assessment (NIHSS), critical care medication administration (pressors, vasodilators, anti-arrhythmics, sedatives), SANE care.
- Equipment Proficiency: Rapid Infusor, Arctic Sun.
- Soft Skills: Critical thinking, rapid assessment, effective communication, teamwork, adaptability to floating assignments, crisis management.
