Job Summary
North Country Hospital, a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Newport, Vermont, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment. This role offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive emergency care within a close-knit community hospital setting in the scenic Northeast Kingdom.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the rapid assessment, stabilization, and treatment of a diverse patient population presenting with various medical and traumatic emergencies. This position requires a dedicated professional capable of thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining a patient-centered approach to care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rapid and comprehensive patient assessments, including triage, for patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
- Implement and monitor nursing care plans for patients experiencing medical emergencies, trauma, and acute illnesses.
- Administer medications, perform treatments, and assist with procedures as ordered by physicians.
- Monitor vital signs, interpret cardiac rhythms, and manage life-sustaining equipment.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, other nurses, and ancillary staff to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records documentation.
- Respond to codes and critical situations with prompt and appropriate interventions.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Vermont or compact state license.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.

Shift Details

- Days per Week: 3 days per week, guaranteeing 72 hours bi-weekly.
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend required.
- Contract Length: 13 weeks.
- Start Date: August 31, 2026.
Licensing Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Vermont.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
