North Country Hospital, a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Newport, Vermont, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment. This role offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive emergency care within a close-knit community hospital setting in the scenic Northeast Kingdom.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the rapid assessment, stabilization, and treatment of a diverse patient population presenting with various medical and traumatic emergencies. This position requires a dedicated professional capable of thriving in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining a patient-centered approach to care.
Key Responsibilities
Perform rapid and comprehensive patient assessments, including triage, for patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
Implement and monitor nursing care plans for patients experiencing medical emergencies, trauma, and acute illnesses.
Administer medications, perform treatments, and assist with procedures as ordered by physicians.
Monitor vital signs, interpret cardiac rhythms, and manage life-sustaining equipment.
Collaborate effectively with physicians, other nurses, and ancillary staff to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records documentation.
Respond to codes and critical situations with prompt and appropriate interventions.
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Vermont or compact state license.
Minimum of 3-5 years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.

Shift Details
Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts (e.g., 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM or 1:00 PM - 1:00 AM).
Days per Week: 3 days per week, guaranteeing 72 hours bi-weekly.
Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend required.
Contract Length: 13 weeks.
Start Date: August 31, 2026.
Licensing Requirements
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Vermont.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
