Join a dedicated team as an Intermediate Care Registered Nurse in a dynamic 42-bed Medical Intermediate Care Unit (Daly 6B) located in Springfield, Massachusetts. This unit provides comprehensive care for a diverse patient population, functioning as both a medical-telemetry and medical step-down unit.
The unit manages a variety of complex cases including PNA, COPD exacerbation, DKA, HHS, ETOH withdrawal, GIB, Sepsis, PE, UTI, and respiratory failure. Nurses on this unit are integral to providing high-quality care across both intermediate care and medical-telemetry patient populations, with a commitment to maintaining optimal patient ratios.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care for a diverse medical-telemetry and intermediate step-down population.
Manage and monitor patients with conditions such as PNA, COPD exacerbation, DKA, HHS, ETOH withdrawal, GIB, Sepsis, PE, UTI, and respiratory failure.
Operate and manage specialized equipment including tracheostomies, ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, cardiac drips, BiPAP, and telemetry systems.
Maintain patient ratios of 1:3 in Intermediate Care and 1:6 in Medical.
Float to other units as needed to support hospital operations.
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Demonstrated experience with tracheostomies, ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, cardiac drips, BiPAP, and telemetry.
Must reside outside a 90-mile radius from the facility.
Preferred Qualifications
1-2 years of experience in an Intermediate Care Unit or Medical-Telemetry setting.
Skills & Competencies
Proficiency in tracheostomy care and management.
Competence in ventilator management and monitoring.
Expertise in high-flow nasal cannula therapy.
Ability to titrate and manage cardiac drips effectively.
Skilled in BiPAP setup and patient management.
Strong telemetry monitoring and interpretation skills.
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt to changing patient needs and unit assignments.
