Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel assignment at MVHS-Wynn in Utica, New York. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to a diverse patient population, including both adult and pediatric patients, within a fast-paced and dynamic emergency setting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, ensuring adherence to established protocols and safety standards. This position requires adaptability and the ability to float to other units as needed to support departmental operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation, for patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring patient responses and adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Manage emergent situations, including trauma, cardiac emergencies, and respiratory distress, demonstrating strong critical thinking and rapid response skills.
  • Educate patients and their families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • Float to other units within the facility as required by patient census and departmental needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent, acute care experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.
  • Demonstrated experience providing care to pediatric patients within an emergency setting.
  • Prior travel nursing experience is mandatory.
  • Proficiency with EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to qualify for the travel assignment. Local candidates residing less than 75 miles may be considered at a local rate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience and demonstrated capability in a Charge Nurse role.
Skills & Competencies
  • Advanced clinical assessment and critical thinking skills specific to emergency medicine.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex patient cases in a high-stress environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting emergency medical equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
