Operative Services Registered Nurse

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Travel Registered Nurse specializing in Operative Services for a 13-week assignment at a reputable healthcare facility in Cooperstown, New York. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a dynamic surgical team in a picturesque setting.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, from pre-operative assessment through intra-operative support and post-operative recovery. You will work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes and maintain a sterile, safe surgical environment.

This assignment is ideal for a highly skilled OR RN looking to leverage their expertise in a new environment while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in the operative setting, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Assist surgeons and surgical teams during various procedures by circulating, scrubbing, or assisting as needed.
  • Maintain a sterile field and ensure adherence to aseptic techniques throughout surgical procedures.
  • Monitor patient vital signs, physiological status, and response to anesthesia and surgery.
  • Prepare operating rooms with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies according to surgical case requirements.
  • Administer medications and IV fluids as prescribed, monitoring for adverse reactions.
  • Document all aspects of patient care accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient care and workflow.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient education as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of recent experience as an Operative Services Registered Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
  • Experience with a variety of surgical specialties (e.g., General, Orthopedic, Neuro, Vascular).
Skills & Competencies
  • Clinical Skills: Proficient in aseptic technique, surgical scrubbing and circulating, patient assessment and monitoring, medication administration, wound care, and instrument/equipment management.
  • Equipment: Familiarity with various surgical equipment, monitoring devices, and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, adaptability, and meticulous attention to detail.
