Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS Must-Have: Teamwork oriented Description: The unit consists of 18 beds, including a fast track staffed with midlevels and LVNs. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications are required. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1 to 4, unless assigned to an ICU patient, in which case the ratio is 1 to 2. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used is Cerner. Each shift has a charge nurse, and a resource nurse is available. Emergency Department Techs are EMTs or aides from other units. Weekend requirement includes 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule. Weekends are defined as Friday/Saturday for nights and Saturday/Sunday for days. Holidays consist of 1 major and 1 minor holiday. Required scrub color is navy blue. Undershirts must also be navy, white, or black. Telemetry equipment used is Phillips. Ventilator support is available. Hospitalists or intensivists are in-house at all times, and only MDs are utilized in the emergency room. Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shift assignments include various start times, with self-scheduling considered but finalized by management. Floating between facilities may occur, with prior notification provided. Floor-specific orientation comprises 2 shifts at the primary location and 1 shift at the other location. Common patient diagnoses include a mix of cases, with some less pediatric cases than other campuses. Correctional patients are present, requiring an officer's presence during their care. All obstetric patients are transferred; no cardiac patients are treated on-site. Applicants must commit fully as this position cannot accommodate additional work schedules. The emergency department treats between 85 to 115 patients daily, with an average of 100 patients per day. The hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts during the contract period. The charting system in use is Cerner.
