Description:
Unit has 18 beds with fast track staffed by midlevels and LVNs.
Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS.
Patient ratios are 1 to 4 unless an ICU patient is present, in which case it is 1 to 2.
The electronic medical record system used is Cerner.
Shift management includes a charge nurse and a resource nurse.
ED Techs are EMTs or aides from other units.
Staff is required to work 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, with weekends being Friday/Saturday for nights and Saturday/Sunday for days.
Holiday requirements include 1 major and 1 minor holiday.
Scrub color is navy blue, including any scrub jackets and undershirts.
Telemetry services are provided by Phillips.
Vents are available on the unit.
Hospitalists or intensivists are in-house and only MDs are used in the Emergency Room.
There is no IV team, but respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7.
Shifts for days are from 7a-7:30p, with various mid shifts and nights from 7p-7:30a.
Self-scheduling is in place, but not finalized until management balances it.
Floating between facilities could occur, with a 2-hour notice prior to shift start.
Mid-shift floating could also happen, as facilities are within close proximity.
Floor-specific orientation involves 2 shifts at the primary campus and 1 shift at the other campus.
Common diagnoses and patient types include a less pediatric population and a notable portion of correctional patients.
All obstetric patients are transferred to another campus.
The patient population may include more homeless and indigent individuals, but cardiac patients are stabilized and transferred out.
This position must be the candidate's primary job, and flexibility around another job schedule is not permitted.
Candidates should be highly teamwork-oriented and prepared to treat between 85 to 115 patients daily, with an average of 100 patients.
The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
Charting is conducted within the Cerner system.
