Join a dedicated healthcare team in Bethel, Alaska, as a Registered Nurse specializing in Med-Surg. This role involves providing comprehensive patient care across a diverse population, including adult, pediatric, mother/baby, post-surgical, and behavioral health patients. The successful candidate will be integral to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within a dynamic hospital environment.
You will be responsible for applying the full nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This includes conducting initial and ongoing assessments, coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams, and serving as a clinical resource. Key Responsibilities
Deliver patient care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation).
Direct and coordinate nursing care in accordance with established standards of practice.
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective care and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Conduct initial patient assessments and re-assessments every 24 hours.
Administer treatments and medications accurately and safely.
Interpret diagnostic test results and integrate findings into care plans.
Provide comprehensive patient, family, and significant other education.
Apply age-specific considerations and cultural diversity principles in patient care delivery.
Manage care for post-surgical and behavioral health patients.
Serve as a resource person for colleagues and support staff (e.g., Unit Secretaries, Patient Care Technicians) in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of care delivery.
Demonstrate therapeutic communication skills, particularly with behavioral health patients.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from a nursing program approved by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
New graduates are accepted.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with pediatric and adult patient populations.
Skills & Competencies
Proficient oral and written communication skills.
Ability to practice nursing in accordance with Alaska State regulations.
Strong cognitive and technical knowledge to manage care across the continuum of care.
Flexibility in work schedule and ability for independent action within prescribed limits.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Ability to interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations relevant to nursing practice (e.g., medication dosages, rates).
Strong reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to utilize standard office equipment (e.g., computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine).
Proficiency with medical equipment appropriate for the position.
