Job Summary
Join our dedicated Emergency Room team in Honakaa, Hawaii, as a Registered Nurse. This role is crucial in providing immediate, high-quality care to patients presenting with a wide range of acute and critical conditions.
The Emergency Department serves a diverse patient population, requiring a highly skilled and adaptable nurse capable of managing complex cases, from trauma and cardiac emergencies to general medical complaints. You will operate in a fast-paced environment, utilizing your clinical expertise to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Efficiently manage multiple patient assignments, demonstrating strong independent work capabilities and critical thinking.
- Respond effectively to emergent situations, including Stroke, STEMI, and Trauma activations, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions.
- Administer medications, perform treatments, and operate medical equipment with precision and adherence to safety protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
- Educate patients and their families on diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate and thorough electronic health records using Meditech EMR.
- Adhere to core measures, National Patient Safety Goals, and patient experience standards (AIDET, Press Ganey).
- Demonstrate flexibility to float to other units as determined by nursing administration, provided clinical abilities align with unit needs.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Certification.
- NCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) Certification.
- Procedural Sedation competency.
Skills & Competencies
- Clinical Skills: Proficient IV insertion and management, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, trauma nursing care, stroke assessment (NIHSS).
- Equipment Proficiency: Meditech EMR, Life pack Defibrillators, Braun IV pumps, Philips Monitoring Systems, Motorola Radio Systems.
- Patient Care Standards: Strong understanding and application of core measures, National Patient Safety Goals, AIDET, and Press Ganey principles.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional ability to multitask, work independently, critical thinking, effective communication, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
Shift Details
- Assignment Type: Travel Contract

- Contract Length: 15 weeks
- Shift Type: AM shifts
- Shift Duration: 12-hour shifts
- Days Per Week: 3 days per week, totaling 80 hours within a two-week period.
- Schedule: Variable 8- or 12-hour shifts; specific shift determined by manager upon arrival.
- On-Call: One on-call shift required per roster.
- Weekends: At least one weekend off per roster.
Licensing Requirements
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Hawaii.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
