Job Summary

Join a dedicated healthcare team in Bethel, Alaska, at Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation, serving a diverse patient population from infancy through geriatrics. This role primarily focuses on providing comprehensive nursing care within the Obstetrics unit, encompassing the full spectrum of the nursing process from assessment to evaluation.

The Obstetrics Registered Nurse is responsible for directing and coordinating patient care in accordance with established nursing practice standards. This position involves close collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and efficient care, ultimately striving for optimal patient outcomes. The successful candidate will apply age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in all aspects of patient care, contributing to a supportive and patient-centered environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care through the nursing process: assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and coordinate nursing care for patients based on established nursing practice standards.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care.
  • Achieve optimal patient outcomes through coordinated care.
  • Serve as a resource person for clinical situations as required.
  • Apply age-specific considerations and cultural diversity when rendering patient care.
  • Administer treatments and medications accurately and safely.
  • Interpret diagnostic tests and integrate findings into patient care plans.
  • Provide comprehensive patient, family, and significant other education.
  • Delegate tasks to Unit Secretaries and OB Technicians in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
  • Maintain required competencies for the position.
  • Practice nursing in accordance with Alaska State regulations regarding Registered Nursing.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an NLN approved institution.
  • Ability to manage care across the continuum of care.
  • Flexibility with work schedule.
  • Ability for independent actions within prescribed limits.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to work effectively in a patient care setting.
  • Strong language, mathematical, and reasoning abilities to interpret professional journals, procedures, regulations, document care, follow guidelines, present information, and solve practical problems.
  • Theoretical knowledge of the nursing process, care management, and continuity of care.
  • Knowledge of AWHONN standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • 1-2 years of recent Obstetrics (OB) experience.
  • National Certification in Obstetrics.
