The Role
Our client, an acute care hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico, is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Emergency Department team. This is a full-time permanent position in a fast-paced, high-acuity emergency environment. The successful candidate will deliver skilled, compassionate nursing care across the full spectrum of emergency presentations, working as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team focused on patient safety, quality outcomes, and excellent patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rapid triage, assessment, and prioritisation of emergency patients across all acuity levels
- Initiate and deliver timely nursing interventions for trauma, medical emergencies, paediatric, and geriatric presentations
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and the multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated emergency care
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments in accordance with physician orders and emergency protocols
- Monitor and reassess patient condition continuously; recognise and respond to deterioration promptly
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record
- Support and participate in trauma activations, codes, and mass casualty response as required
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care
- Ensure compliance with EMTALA, Joint Commission, and all applicable regulatory requirements
Requirements
Must-Have
- Current New Mexico RN licence (or compact licence eligibility)
- Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) minimum; BSN preferred
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required upon hire
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required within 6 months of hire
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required within 6 months of hire
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required within 6 months of hire
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Minimum 1 year of registered nursing experience
- Minimum 1 year of emergency department nursing experience
- CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) certification advantageous
