About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Registered Nurse - Endoscopy to join a healthcare team in Bakersfield, California, for a 13-week contract assignment.
The ideal candidate will provide safe, high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. This role requires strong assessment skills, attention to detail, knowledge of procedural and recovery care, and the ability to work effectively with physicians and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients before, during, and after endoscopic procedures.
Perform pre-procedure assessments, obtain relevant medical history, and verify patient information.
Review medications, allergies, medical conditions, and procedure-related risks.
Prepare patients for procedures and provide appropriate pre-procedure education.
Verify informed consent and ensure required documentation is complete according to facility policy.
Prepare and maintain the procedure room, equipment, supplies, and medications.
Assist physicians and other clinical staff during endoscopic procedures.
Monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, cardiac rhythm, and level of consciousness throughout procedures.
Administer medications, IV fluids, sedation-related medications, and treatments as ordered and within scope of practice.
Closely monitor patients for adverse reactions, complications, or changes in condition.
Assist with specimen collection, labeling, handling, and documentation.
Provide post-procedure recovery care and monitor patients until appropriate recovery criteria are met.
Recognize and respond promptly to complications such as bleeding, respiratory changes, allergic reactions, or hemodynamic instability.
Provide discharge instructions to patients and families regarding recovery, medications, diet, warning signs, and follow-up care.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
Follow infection prevention, sterilization, medication safety, and patient safety standards.
Assist with maintaining appropriate procedure-room workflow and equipment readiness.
Communicate effectively with physicians, anesthesia providers, nurses, technicians, patients, and families.
Assist with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and coordination with other departments.
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
Follow facility policies, procedural standards, and applicable nursing regulations.
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in California.
Minimum 2 years of recent Endoscopy, GI, Procedural, or acute-care nursing experience.
Strong patient assessment and clinical judgment skills.
Experience caring for patients undergoing invasive diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
Knowledge of pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure nursing care.
Experience with IV therapy, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
Ability to recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedural safety standards.
Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Proficiency with electronic medical records.
Ability to work day shift on a 3×12 schedule.
Required certifications should meet applicable facility requirements.
