Job Title: Hospice Director/Administrator Profession: RN Specialty: Hospice Duration: Permanent Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Two years experience in hospice administration preferred. License: Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Certifications: Completion of an additional 16 hours of hospice-specific administrative education within 12 months of hire required. Must-Have: Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing preferred. Description: The Hospice Director/Administrator plans, directs, and supervises all operations and patient care activities of the Hospice Department. This position oversees compliance, quality management, staffing, fiscal planning, and public relations while ensuring the delivery of compassionate, high-quality end-of-life care. The Administrator works collaboratively with leadership, physicians, and staff to achieve strategic goals and ensure regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities: Direct all day-to-day activities of the department and ensure quality hospice services. Develop strategic plans, set goals, and monitor performance outcomes. Maintain regulatory compliance and ensure policies and procedures are current with state and federal regulations. Serve as the liaison between hospice and hospitals, healthcare agencies, and the community. Provide direct patient care when needed and ensure the highest standards of patient services. Provide clinical leadership as the responsible RN leader for hospice services; ensure care delivery aligns with hospice philosophy, patient/family needs, and interdisciplinary plans of care. Ensure adequate exchange of information and communication among personnel providing services; support mechanisms for patient/family communication and feedback. Interview, hire, and train staff; conduct performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as necessary. Oversee staffing and scheduling to meet departmental needs. Support staff development and continuing education. Maintain accurate and timely payroll/timecard records in accordance with guidelines. Formulate, manage, and monitor the department's annual budget. Oversee billing reconciliation, medication discrepancies, and charge management. Lead performance improvement initiatives and monitor department quality metrics. Ensure licensed personnel operate within their defined scope of practice. Develop and implement a marketing plan to promote hospice services. Represent the hospice at community events, health fairs, open houses, and professional meetings. Maintain relationships with community clergy, faith groups, and organizations to support patient needs. Keep the Board informed of hospice activities and outcomes. Participate in and lead committees as assigned. Appoint a qualified alternate in case of absence. Complete all mandatory training related to hospice administration, including topics such as fraud prevention, client rights, disaster planning, and infection control.
