Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join a high-acuity 10-bed Medical ICU. The ideal candidate should be confident managing critically ill patients, interpreting telemetry, managing ventilated patients, and titrating multiple critical-care infusions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill Medical ICU patients
- Manage a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Monitor and interpret Telemetry/ECG strips
- Care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation
- Perform and document comprehensive patient assessments
- Titrate cardiac, sedation, and paralytic drips according to clinical protocols
- Monitor hemodynamic and clinical status and respond promptly to changes
- Collaborate with intensivists, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams
- Provide safe, evidence-based care in a fast-paced ICU environment
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license
- Previous ICU experience required
- Experience caring for Medical ICU patients
- Strong Telemetry skills
- Ventilator experience required
- Experience with drip titration required
- BLS required
- ACLS required
- Ability to independently assess and manage critically ill patients
Critical Care Skills
Experience with titratable medications including:
- Cardiac drips
- Sedation drips
- Paralytics
RNs are expected to independently monitor and titrate drips based on patient condition and facility protocols.
Unit Support
- Charge Nurse available every shift
- Charge Nurse takes a patient assignment
- Hospitalist/Intensivist available in the ICU 24/7
- Respiratory Therapist available in the ICU 24/7
- Nurse aids/PCTs available based on staffing needs
- Telemetry/monitor technicians available, with RNs responsible for reading their own strips
Schedule & Requirements
- Self-scheduling available, subject to adjustments to maintain balanced staffing
- 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period
- Holiday requirement: 2 summer holidays and 3 winter holidays
- No call or standby requirement
Floating
- Floating may be required
- RNs may be asked to float to the Medical-Surgical/Floor units based on hospital needs and clinical competency
Dress Code & Orientation
- Scrub Color: Galaxy Blue
- Unit-specific orientation: 1–2 shifts
