Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Mixed Acuity ICU/PCU position requiring at least 1 year of ICU experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in a 18-bed Mixed Acuity PCU unit within a Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Primary Stroke Center
• Care for intermediate care and non-vented ICU level patients including neurological, post-procedural, and critical care diagnoses
• Patient types include post TNK, neuro IR procedures, embolizations, angiography, hemorrhages/aneurysms, burr holes, post VP shunt placements, post craniotomy/craniectomy, lumbar drains, spinal cord injuries, EVDs, and continuous EEG monitoring
• Also manage respiratory failure, CHF, hypotension, sepsis, AMS, acute neurological diagnoses, DKA, and electrolyte abnormalities
• RN to patient ratio of 1:3 based on acuity; CNA ratio of 1:12
• Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs/Resparray monitors
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a) on a 36/48 schedule with a 6-week schedule cycle
• Every other weekend rotation, with rare back-to-back weekends
• Floating required to like units or patient locations (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task, ICU-ER/ICU holds)
• No on-call requirements

Requirements

• Active RN license (AL or compact) required
• Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required
• First-time travelers accepted with at least 2 years of ICU experience
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Experience managing patients on BiPAP/CPAP required
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
• Experience with CVP monitoring and hemodynamic line monitoring required
• Experience with post-surgical drains, trachs, and chest tubes required
• Experience titrating drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Esmolol, Insulin, Cardene, Nitro, Levophed, and Epinephrine required
• Ability to read and measure telemetry strips required

Additional Information

• Support staff includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, rapid response team, and a dedicated resource nurse/educator
• 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available on the unit
• Unit is in a formative stage, building its culture with an emphasis on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement
• New facility travelers or those returning after 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
• Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates
• Any scrub color permitted
• Free parking available on campus and in the parking deck
• Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility as local candidates are not accepted
• Returning perm staff must wait 6 months before being considered as a traveler
