The role emphasizes acute patient assessment, titration of drips such as vasopressors and insulin, and interpreting telemetry strips, with a focus on ensuring patient safety and clinical excellence.
Job Details
- Position: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Nurse
- Certifications Required: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale)
- Minimum Experience: 2 years in ICU or critical care setting
- Location: Within 50 miles of the healthcare facility
- Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Orientation: First week system orientation and onboarding, followed by 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
- Patient Ratios: 1:2; if downgrades occur, ratios are 1:5 for medical patients and 1:4 for progressive care unit (PCU)
- Patient Types: COPD, pneumonia, CVA, TIA, DKA, sepsis, CHF, STEMI, neuro-related conditions
- Responsibilities: Titrate and monitor titratable drips including vasopressors, insulin, TNK, heparin, IV antibiotics, and sedatives; interpret telemetry strips; respond to emergencies; provide compassionate patient care
- Additional Information: RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips and troubleshoot vents, BiPAP, and CPAP equipment. A charge nurse is present on each shift and may take assignments. RNs will float to progressive care and medical floors as needed. Scrap colors/dress code is navy blue.
- Shift & Scheduling: Shifts run from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM, with schedule set by unit scheduler. Weekend and holiday work are required as per unit needs.
- Charting System: EPIC.
- Licensing: License required to submit application.
