Registered Nurse (RN) - Neuro ICU

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a critical care position in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. This role requires advanced skills and expertise in managing complex neurological patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for patients with neurological conditions, including stroke management and post-surgical care.
• Monitor patients and interpret dysrhythmias, while managing blood product administration and central lines.
• Utilize advanced techniques for continuous IV sedation and ICP monitoring.
• Experience with external ventricular drains (EVD) and lumbar drains is essential.
• Implement isolation precautions and appropriate PPE usage as necessary.
• Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a Neuro ICU setting required; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Skills: Strong background in neuro critical care is essential. Specific skills required include:
  • Management of stroke patients (ischemic, hemorrhagic)
  • CVA/acute stroke management
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • Post-neurosurgery management
  • Arterial line management (preferred)
• Certifications: Current ACLS, BCLS, and NIH certifications are required.

Work Details

• Shift: 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
• Ratios: Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 2:1 and can flex to 3:1 during high census periods.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required.
• Orientation: 24 hours of unit orientation to acclimate to processes and procedures.
