ICU Travel Nurse Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020–$2,130
• Location: Freeport, Illinois
• Healthcare Setting: 8-bed acute-care intensive care unit
• Start Date: October 12, 2026
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, ending January 11, 2027
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation
• Patient Population: Typical nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2–3, with some lower-acuity patients
• Electronic Medical Record: MEDITECH
• Floating: May include MedSurg, Telemetry, or Emergency Department assignments with a full patient load

ICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• At least 2 years of recent ICU or critical care nursing experience
• Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required for submission
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage critically ill patients and run code responses
• Experience titrating vasoactive, sedative, analgesic, insulin, and thrombolytic infusions
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical judgment skills
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Code Blue Command RN, phlebotomy, and MEDITECH experience are valuable additions

Critical Care Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary nursing care for ICU patients with conditions including sepsis, medical and surgical diagnoses, stroke, diabetic ketoacidosis, pneumonia, and alcohol withdrawal
• Monitor and care for post-cardiac-catheterization patients, including assessment of radial and femoral access sites
• Assess patients, develop and update individualized care plans, administer medications, and evaluate clinical responses
• Safely titrate medications such as norepinephrine, phenylephrine, propofol, fentanyl, dexmedetomidine, insulin, and TNK according to orders and protocols
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate timely interventions and escalation of care
• Lead or actively participate in Code Blue responses and support team coverage during emergencies
• Interpret and document cardiac rhythm strips using available monitoring technology
• Collaborate with hospitalists, respiratory therapists, nursing leadership, support staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
• Float to designated units as needed while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care
• Complete accurate clinical documentation and participate in department-specific orientation and ongoing teamwork
