TNAA TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Rapid City, South Dakota.

SIMPLI FI CLINICAL INTERVIEWS

Minimal Experience:
2 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel experience is most preferred
If they have 1.5 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel and have significant RN experience outside of ICU, please have CRT send to management team for approval

Required Certifications:
BLS,, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC (REQUIRED) – please decline travelers that would not be willing to obtain this certification prior to arrival

Required Education:
Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing;  Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing

General Information:
* Beds: 39 – MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU – mixed unit- All one ICU divided into pods- would not float into CVICU side unless experienced in that unit/specialty
* Will you accept a first-time traveler? No. Minimum one prior travel assignment.
* Travelers must live 100 miles away from any Monument Health facility
* Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler

Patient Types:
* Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
* Diagnoses include but are not limited to: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma – heavy trauma population
* Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR – 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
* Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this – given to permanent staff

Patient Ratios:
RN: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 (rare) – acuity dependent

Skills required:
* Epic experience
* Comfortability working a 48hr/week contract – this is not negotiable for this unit
* Experience with the above-mentioned patients
If traveler has experience outside of this specialty – please include this is     your offer details
        * ICU RN qualified to float to ED
        * PCU RN qualified to float to ICU
* Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry, strong critical thinking and assessment skills, working well in team setting, comfortable in fast pace setting with all critical patients.
* Impella, IABP and CRRT – strongly preferred
* Please ask traveler to describe a time when they exceeded a leader’s expectations and share this information in your offer email

Support on the Unit:
* CNA: 1-2 Nurse Aide’s per unit + mobility float aide
* Charge nurse: 2 CRN’s oversee all ICUs
* Phlebotomy? Yes, peripheral blood draws only
* IV/VAT Team? ICU CRNs place all midlines
* Resource Nurse: Yes, staffing dependent
* RT: Yes, 24/7
* Physicians: 3 Intensivists on days, 2 on nights + APP on nights

Charting System:
Epic – REQUIRED FOR ED & ICU, Alaris- (Will be switching to Baxter Pumps by October), Omnicell

Floating: 
Not common unless overstaffed. Could float to any adult floor – including Medsurg/Tele with 1:4 ratio. Confirm traveler comfortability during interview

Orientation: 
(1) 8-hour orientation period for department orientation and iLearns
(1) 4-hour orientation period to complete iLearns
(2) 12-hour shifts of floor orientation
(1) additional 12-hour shift (independent) for 48 GH travelers to meet required hours

Scheduling:
* Weekend rotation: Try for every other weekend, this is not guaranteed though.
* Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No
* Holiday Expectations: No RTO during holidays
* Approval of time off? Up to 7 days – must extend to accommodate a full 13-week contract. No RTO during Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks in August every year)
