ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

This role is for a dedicated and skilled ICU Registered Nurse within a Level III Trauma Center's Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). The unit comprises 20 beds and caters to a wide range of adult patients with critical conditions. The position requires floating to various Medical/Surgical units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients in the MICU.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry data and recognize emergency situations.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including attendings and residents present 24 hours a day.
• Manage patient care in alignment with evidence-based practices and institutional policies.
• Float to Medical/Surgical units as required, caring for 4-5 patients per shift.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of continuous ICU experience, with a preference for MICU.
• Competency in reading telemetry strips is essential.
• Active RN license in Massachusetts.
• AHA BLS and ACLS certifications are required.
• Ability to work rotating day and night shifts, including weekends, as needed.

Patient Population

The MICU cares for patients with a variety of high-acuity diagnoses, including but not limited to:

• Substance abuse and overdose
• Severe psychiatric conditions
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
• Sepsis
• Gastrointestinal (GI) bleed
• Respiratory failure
• Cardiac arrest
• Renal failure
• Cardiogenic shock
