Job Title: Infusion RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Infusion RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: M-F Hours per Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current RN License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification Required Must-Have: Strong computer skills with the ability to navigate EMR programs Description: The Infusion RN is responsible for providing direct and indirect patient care in the infusion department. Provides care that reflects initiative, flexibility, and responsibility indicative of professional expectations with minimal supervision. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates with practitioners about changes in patient's status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies. Initiates IVs via central venous devices or by peripheral access and administers blood transfusions or drug infusions as ordered and directed by a licensed practitioner. Performs accurate and complete assessment of patients. Coordinates and ensures completion of interdisciplinary screenings and assessments. Assesses and reassesses pain, with assessments being age, culture, and psychosocial appropriate. Provides patient care with consideration of the patient’s needs, age, and culture, following appropriate standards of care. Educates the patient and family regarding the treatment plan and follow-up instructions given per provider instructions, including any education handouts. Assesses the effectiveness of pain medications and revises care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment. Prepares and administers medications based on the age and clinical condition of the patient per policy and nursing standards of care. Manages the supply of medications and contacts pharmacy as needed to ensure uninterrupted medication therapy. Ability to manage antineoplastic agents and therapy following safety protocols, considering physical and psychological effects, risks, and benefits. Explains procedures to patient and family, utilizes specialty equipment, and assists practitioners with procedures. Utilizes other departments to provide interdisciplinary care as appropriate. Utilizes pain management techniques. Follows medical records documentation guidelines regarding timeliness of reviews and completeness of documentation. Obtains and documents accurate and thorough patient medical history, including pertinent history, pain assessment, current medications, identified health risk factors, and other needed information. Performs all aspects of the position in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical or healthcare errors. Utilizes established hand-off communication protocols and maintains the security of the department. Complies with all established safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Participates in performance improvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
