Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Minimum 18 months to 2 years of ICU RN experience - BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications Description: The role requires working in an Intensive Care Unit with a capacity of 10 ICU and 4 PCU beds. The average daily census is 7.3 patients. Patient types include sepsis, COPD, CHF, chest pain, myocardial infarction, NSTEMI, stroke, TIA, new onset cardiac arrhythmia, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus and DKA, minor trauma, alcohol withdrawal, ARDS, and respiratory illnesses such as flu, COVID, and pneumonia. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2-3, depending on acuity, and staff may care for a mix of ICU and Med/Tele patients. Skills required include stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, management of critical care drips, chest tube management, and tracheostomy care. Experience with intravenous (IV) starts, medication administration, and wound care is essential. The role includes monitoring and managing ventilator settings and performing 12-lead EKGs. Support is provided by a house supervisor and available resources for phlebotomy and respiratory therapy. Communication and teamwork are vital in this position, as constructive feedback is encouraged. Travelers will rotate weekends and work 75% of holidays. The unit fosters a culture of open communication and collaboration. Dress code includes navy scrubs with specific guidelines regarding undershirts and footwear.
