Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM) Experience: Minimum 2 years of critical care ICU experience (non-PCU) License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: Unit notes: The Intensive Care Unit consists of 14 beds. Nurse-patient ratios are 1:2 or 1:1, depending on acuity and specialty devices. Experience with specialty devices is not required for travelers but may be beneficial. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set rate drips include Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Phenylephrine, Nitroglycerin, Diltiazem, Nicardipine, Propofol, Fentanyl, Morphine, Versed, Precedex, Heparin, Insulin, and others. There is a designated charge nurse who does not take a patient assignment unless necessary. Nurse aids and patient care techs are present on the unit with a ratio of 1:8. There is a tele tech present who performs two-thirds of the telemetry strips for each shift. RNs must sign off on two-thirds of these strips and perform one strip of their own. The facility uses SpaceLabs monitors. A Physician covers ICU admissions 24/7 and is available for troubleshooting and management of Respiratory Therapy equipment. Staffing schedules are made by management. Weekend requirements typically involve every other weekend to every third weekend. Holidays may require participation in the holiday rotation. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating may be required across various campuses but typically not to PCU or MS-Tele unless experience is present. Scrub colors are not restricted; any color scrubs are acceptable. Travel staff receive great reviews from past travelers and are considered part of the team. Cancellation policies apply regarding missed shifts. Charting is performed using an electronic system. BSN is not required for this position. The trauma level is designated within the facility. This position focuses primarily on an acute care setting.
