Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience required License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 2 years of ICU experience - Prefer experience in a similar size or larger ICU and hospital Description: Department: Critical Care | Nursing The unit consists of separate but combined units. The bed capacity is 16 in each unit. Patient nurse ratios are 1:1 and 1:2. Common diagnoses include CABG, CVA, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracerebral brain hemorrhage, GI bleeds, DKA, STEMI, septic shock, overdose, respiratory failure, neurosurgery, and open-heart procedures. Travelers do not need prior experience with CRRT, ECMO, or balloon pumps. The unit does not treat trauma, burns, or transplant patients. Nurses are required to titrate drips, including Dopamine, Epi, Norepi, Cardene, Nitro, Neo, Vasopressin, Diltiazem, Insulin, and Esmolol. Each unit has a charge nurse who does not routinely take an assignment. There is a resource nurse available on each unit. Nurse aides are present on this unit, with a ratio of 1:8. Two CNAs are on duty during days and 1-1.5 during nights. Both hospitalists and intensivists are in-house. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, with a minimum of 2 staff in each ICU. The ICU is equipped with vents, BiPAP, and CPAP. RNs are required to monitor and read their own strips using Spacelabs equipment. The scheduling utilizes travel RNs to fill staffing needs. Efforts are made to group night shifts and accommodate self-scheduling requests. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend. Holiday work may be necessary based on the unit's needs. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other ICUs may be required, as well as being assigned as a 1:1 sitter outside the ICU. There are no specific dress code requirements. Unit-specific orientation consists of 1-2 shifts. This facility has a radius rule of 50 miles for candidates.
