CVICU Registered Nurse Job Summary

Join a dedicated team at an independent community hospital located in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, situated along the I-70 corridor between Denver and Grand Junction. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-acuity care to a diverse patient population within a close-knit community setting.

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) Registered Nurse will primarily care for critically ill cardiovascular patients, including those immediately post-operative (Day 0) from cardiac surgeries. The role also requires flexibility to support the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and float to Acute Care (Med-Surg) as needed, ensuring comprehensive patient coverage across critical care areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert nursing care to critically ill patients in the CVICU, including post-cardiac surgery (Day 0) patients.
  • Manage and monitor patients with complex cardiovascular conditions, requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring and life support.
  • Administer medications, perform treatments, and operate specialized medical equipment relevant to CVICU and CCU patient care.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Assess patient conditions, interpret diagnostic data, and respond to emergent situations with critical thinking and swift action.
  • Document patient care accurately and comprehensively in electronic health records.
  • Float to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Acute Care (Med-Surg) as staffing needs dictate.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent Registered Nurse experience in a Critical Care setting.
  • Demonstrated strong CVICU skills, including direct experience with Day 0 post-cardiac surgery patients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a facility with a Hybrid Cath Lab.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
Skills & Competencies
  • Advanced hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation.
  • Ventilator management and respiratory support.
  • Management of cardiac assist devices (e.g., IABP, Impella).
  • Proficiency in arrhythmia interpretation and advanced cardiac life support interventions.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing patient acuities and unit needs, including floating to other units.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Shift Details
  • Shift Type: Nights
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Days per Week: 3
  • Weekend Rotation: Required
  • Call Requirements: Participate in a call rotation, taking 1 call shift per 2-week period.
  • Floating: Must be willing to float to Acute Care (Med-Surg) as needed.
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: August 11, 2026
Licensing Requirements
  • Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Colorado.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
