He/She ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the unit's standards of care. He/She demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the organization. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice. Treats staff, physicians, patients, and families with consideration and respect. Responsibilities include: Obtaining and recording initial assessments and establishing priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs. Re-assessing patient systems systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention. Developing and implementing a measurable individualized plan of care for the patient within the timeframe established by Nursing Standards of Care. Making comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcomes; modifying the plan of care based on evaluations. Participating in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning. Implementing and documenting timely interventions appropriate to patient needs. Evaluating the plan of care. Performing various Point of Care testing procedures. Staff Responsibilities: Utilizing effective communication strategies, resulting in intended outcomes. Delegating unit work assignments appropriately to ensure completion of required patient care support activities. Coordinating team assignments and making adjustments based on patient and unit needs; following up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness. Utilizing the appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues. Participating in the orientation of new staff/students on the unit. Functioning as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff; greeting them promptly and courteously. Promoting a positive work environment evidenced by demonstrating a professional, supportive attitude for the unit staff. Being receptive and responsive to new ideas. Participating in the unit's growth and development through various mechanisms to improve organizational performance. Collaborating by working with others to achieve unit and organizational goals. Customer Relations: Exhibiting behaviors and actions that create a high level of patient/customer satisfaction, positive patient/customer relations, and respect for patient/customer rights, needs, and confidentiality. Demonstrating effective communication and human relations skills, which promote harmony and teamwork.
