Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: ICU/PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years of ICU experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Experience in titrating drips, ability to monitor cardiac rhythms, and perform assessments. Description: Unit is a Multi Care Unit with three different acuities. The unit has 10 beds. Patient care ratios depend on acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, and MST 1:5-6. When nurse aids are not present, RNs handle three patients and provide primary care. Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, suicide attempts, drug or alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, and post-operative complications. There are non-titratable infusions in the PCU for maintaining heart rate or blood pressure. Nurses are required to titrate drips, including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin. Charge RNs manage 50 inpatient beds, including various unit types. There are nurse aids in the unit, assigned to 10-15 patients. Respiratory therapists support as needed, including the use of vents, BIPAP, and CPAP. Remote monitor technicians are available for patient monitoring. RNs are required to perform and interpret 12-lead EKGs. Shifts are 12 hours long, starting at either 0700 or 1930. Weekend shifts occur every other weekend. Holiday shifts are rotated fairly among staff. A call or standby requirement exists in case of low census. Staff may be required to float to other units to maintain competency. Notice of two hours is provided before floating. Scrubs are to be of any color except camouflage. Unit-specific orientation is conducted, including hospital orientation. The charting system used is Cerner. BSN degree is not required. This position involves providing care in an acute setting.
