The nurse writes their name in it when they float and there's a float rotation. There are some instances when the house supervisor or director will override the float book for a certain situations. For example, if a nurse has an ER background and ER is super short we may override the float book to send the nurse with the most ER experience. When floating to ER they do not ask the float nurses to take an assignment of patients. The nurse helps answer call lights, pass meds, transport patients, starts IVs, does blood draws, basically things any nurse can do.
