Job Title: Medical ICU Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Medical ICU RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evenings Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1.5 years ICU experience required, 2 years ICU experience preferred License: Valid RN License Certifications: BLS (AHA only), ACLS (AHA only) Must-Have: - Strong background in medical patients and critical care - Ability to be flexible, critically think and reason, team-oriented, and personable - Experience in mixed acuity units Description: The position requires caring for ventilated patients. You will initiate and titrate IV drips, including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics. Assistance with intubations and line placements may be required. You will monitor critically ill patients with diagnoses such as sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia. This is a mixed acuity unit, and you will care for both ICU and progressive patients. However, more often, you will care for progressive patients than ICU patients. Equipment utilized includes heart monitors, electronic medical records, Pyxis, EKG machines, and dopplers. The nurse-to-patient ratio for progressive care is 1:3 or 1:4, and for ICU patients, it is 1:2 or 1:3. You will float to other units and departments, but ratios will be maintained. Dress code requires Caribbean blue scrubs, with jackets in black, white, or Caribbean blue. Short or long sleeves may be worn under the scrubs but must be black or white. Onboarding includes reviewing policies and obtaining training and access to electronic medical records. This position requires teamwork and collaboration with other nursing staff. You will not work alone, as there will always be support available from colleagues. Flexibility and adaptability are essential for success in this role.
