Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1.5 years of ICU experience required; 2 years preferred. License: Valid RN License Certifications: BLS (AHA only), ACLS (AHA only) Must-Have: Strong background in medical patients and critical care with the ability to be flexible, critically think and reason, team-oriented, and personable. Description: This position requires caring for ventilated patients. You will initiate and titrate IV drips, including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics. Assisting with intubations and line placement is necessary. You will monitor critically ill patients with primary diagnoses such as sepsis, respiratory failure (acute and chronic), renal failure (acute and chronic), myocardial infarctions, pulmonary embolisms, and pneumonia. This is a mixed acuity unit, accommodating both ICU and progressive care patients. Travelers will care for both types of patients, more often progressive patients than ICU patients. Equipment utilized in this unit includes heart monitors, electronic medical records, medication dispensing systems, EKG machines, and dopplers. Three 12-hour shifts are required each week, with a traditional weekday and weekend rotation. Staff will never work alone. Floating to other units and departments is part of the role. The medical ICU features 24 beds, while the progressive care unit has 12 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 or 1:4 for progressive care patients, and 1:2 or 1:3 for ICU patients. Dress code requires Caribbean blue scrubs, with jackets in black, white, or Caribbean blue. Short or long sleeves may be worn under scrubs but must be black or white.
