Travel Nurse RN - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) / Critical Care - $2,267 per week in Chicago, IL

The unit is a Level 1 Trauma Center and a Level III Perinatal Center. It is a teaching hospital with Magnet designation. The facility has a comprehensive stroke center with a total of 397 beds. The ICU consists of 17 bays with a 70/30 ICU to step-down patient ratio. Patient types include multi-system organ failure, DKA, sepsis, COPD, CHF, COVID, pneumonia, AKI, CKD, and cardiac ICU patients. You will manage ventilated and sedated patients with experience in ECMO. The patient ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU based on acuity and 1:3-4 in step-down units based on acuity. Required skills include experience with trachs, ventilators, Bipap, chest tubes, arterial lines, Swan Ganz catheters, cardiovascular complications, and the titration of vasopressors and sedation/analgesia. Additional skills needed are CRRT (prismaflex), insulin drips, TR band usage, sheath removal experience, wound vac management, and balloon pump and Impella experience. Support on the unit includes a CNA per unit and a charge nurse who may occasionally take patient assignments. Blood draws and arterial stick for ABGs will be performed by RNs, with assistance from respiratory therapists as needed. An IV/VAT team will assist with difficult IV placements, though they are not available for night coverage. Resources include a resource nurse or house supervisor available 24/7, along with hospitalists, resident physicians, and rescue teams available around the clock. The charting system used is EPIC, along with Alaris IV Pumps and Phillip Monitors. The facility also utilizes centralized telemetry monitoring for the ICU. The expectations include rotating weekends every other week and holiday commitments. Scrub colors are navy for RNs and teal for techs.
