Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: High Acuity ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: Active Illinois license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - PEG tube care and feedings - CVC/PICC/Midline usage and care - Tracheostomy patient care - Experience caring for sedated, ventilated patients - Ability to titrate vasopressors and manage sedation and pain control drips Description: This is a high-acuity unit specializing in critical care. The unit houses a total of 8 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2-3. Common patient diagnoses include respiratory failure, post-surgical care, wound care, intravenous antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, and cardiac patients. Registered Nurses are required to titrate various drips, including Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, and Dopamine. A Charge Nurse is available on each shift, while a House Supervisor is present 24/7. There are no nurse aides or patient care technicians on this unit; nurses provide primary care in the ICU. A hospitalist or intensivist is present in-house during the dayshift, with tele-health available after hours. Respiratory Therapy is available in-house 24/7. Registered Nurses are responsible for troubleshooting equipment, including ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow. All beds are equipped with Phillips telemetry monitors, centrally monitored in the ICU. The facility operates with a 12-hour shift schedule from 7 AM to 7:30 PM. Weekend and holiday rotation is required. Registered Nurses may float to the Medical Surgical unit as needed. Scrubs are required, and only approved t-shirts are permitted. Unit-specific orientation includes classroom training and shifts on the unit with a preceptor. The charting system used is EPIC.
