Job Title: ICU Float Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU Float Pool Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (3+ years required for first-time travelers) License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must float within the assigned zone, experience with critical drips Description: Candidates must have 2 years of ICU experience. Preference is for those with prior travel experience. First-time travelers need 3+ years of ICU experience and Epic experience. Travelers are responsible for obtaining housing that allows for floating throughout the assigned zone. All travelers must be flexible and help fill gaps in permanent scheduling. Shifts are scheduled 6 weeks in advance. Weekends will require 6-9 shifts per 6-week schedule. RNs are expected to be comfortable titrating all critical drips. Common drips include pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, insulin, and more. Claims include no charge nurses on the unit will take a patient assignment unless necessary. RNs must assist in troubleshooting and managing respiratory needs alongside designated respiratory therapists. RNs are expected to read and interpret telemetry independently. Self-scheduling is not allowed; all time-off requests should be submitted prior to starting the assignment. There may be a request to float to different acuity levels. Scrub colors are any color. The first float assignment will be communicated on or before the start date. The facility can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. The charting system used is Epic.
