The nurse-patient ratio typically ranges from 1:1 to 1:2, with possible adjustments based on patient acuity.
Nurses are required to be comfortable titrating critical drips including pressors and sedation.
There is a designated charge nurse on each unit who may also take a small patient assignment if necessary.

Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 in the ICU setting; nurses are expected to assist with respiratory needs.
Nurses must interpret their own telemetry strips as there are no monitor techs on the unit.
