Job Title: ICU Float Pool RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - 2 years of ICU experience - Epic experience preferred for first-time travelers with 3+ years of ICU experience Description: Travelers are expected to float throughout the designated zone. Clinicians must be within a 60-mile radius from the assigned facilities. Housing arrangements must accommodate the floating requirement. Schedules are released 4 to 6 weeks in advance. There are two scheduling formats: - Scheduled at a single facility with the possibility to float if needed. - Just-In-Time (JIT) where facility assignments are provided 1 to 2 hours before the shift. Floating may extend to apply to different acuity levels including ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele. The nurse-patient ratio typically ranges from 1:1 to 1:2, with possible adjustments based on patient acuity. Nurses are required to be comfortable titrating critical drips including pressors and sedation. There is a designated charge nurse on each unit who may also take a small patient assignment if necessary. There are no nurse aides; sitters are provided if needed. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 in the ICU setting; nurses are expected to assist with respiratory needs. Nurses must interpret their own telemetry strips as there are no monitor techs on the unit. Shifts are scheduled from 7 PM to 7 AM. Travelers are expected to help fill scheduling gaps and submit time-off requests in advance. Weekend requirements include 6 to 9 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule. Holiday rotation may be required, and call or standby shifts are rare. Nurses must adhere to dress code policies in accordance with unit standards. Orientation typically includes 1 to 2 days with a preceptor. Travelers should be flexible and ready to adapt to unit needs.
