Job Title: Registered Nurse - ICU Float Pool Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience; 3+ years if first-time traveler License: Nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Must have 2 years of ICU experience; Prefer prior travel experience. If a first-time traveler, must have 3+ years of ICU experience and Epic experience. Description: Hiring process includes an interview with the clinical team. Candidates may be required to float throughout a designated zone. Travelers are responsible for obtaining housing within a feasible distance for floating. Orientation consists of 1-2 days with a preceptor. Nurse-to-patient ratios typically range from 1:1 to 1:2, depending on acuity. Charged nurses do not typically take patient assignments unless needed. Registered nurses are expected to assist in troubleshooting and managing respiratory needs. There are no monitor techs on the unit; registered nurses must interpret telemetry. Schedule is made by leadership for six weeks at a time, and travelers are expected to be flexible. Time-off requests must be submitted before starting the assignment. Weekend shifts are required, with an estimated 6-9 shifts in a six-week schedule. May be asked to float into other acuity levels such as PCU/Stepdown and MS-Tele. Common diagnoses and patient types include various critically ill patients. Registered nurses must be comfortable titrating all critical drips, including pressors and sedation. All necessary certifications must be current and maintained. Cancellation policy allows for hospital cancellations of shifts during the assignment. Travelers may be asked to participate in holiday rotation if required. Nurse aids are not utilized within the unit, and sitter needs will be managed as necessary.
