Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active Illinois license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Experience with PEG tube care and feedings - Experience with CVC, PICC, and Midline usage and care - Experience caring for tracheostomy patients - Experience caring for sedated, ventilated patients - Ability to titrate vasopressors, sedation, and pain control drips Description: This position requires working in a high acuity unit. The unit has 8 beds with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:2-3. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, post-surgical cases, wound care, administration of IV antibiotics, post-CVA patients, post-trauma patients, and cardiac patients. Nurses will titrate various drips, including Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, and Dopamine. A charge nurse is available on each shift, and a house supervisor is available 24/7. Nurse aids or patient care technicians are not present on this unit; nurses provide primary care. Hospitalists or intensivists are in house during the day shift. Tele-health MD is available after hours. Respiratory therapy is available in the unit 24/7. Nurses are responsible for troubleshooting respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow. All 8 ICU beds are hard-wired with telemetry monitors which are monitored centrally. 12-hour shifts are required with weekend and holiday rotations included. There is no current call or standby requirement, but this is subject to change. ICU RNs may float to medical-surgical units as needed. Scrubs are required, and only approved attire is acceptable. The charting system used in this unit is EPIC.
