Description:
This position involves working in an Intensive Care Unit.
The start dates for this position are not flexible.
A 100-mile radius rule applies for candidates.
No 48-hour guarantees are available.
Blocked scheduling requests are not permitted.
No more than five days of requested time off (RTO) are allowed.
Trauma level I or II hospital experience is required.
Nurse-patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2 in the Medical-Surgical ICU.
If there are no vents or drips, the ratio may be 1:3.
The unit has 42 beds.
Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
Common patient diagnoses include cardiac conditions such as open-heart surgery, balloon procedures, and impella management.
Core staff will address specialties including small head bleeds and post-tPA administration cases.
Level 3 trauma cases are managed on site, but it is not necessary to have trauma experience.
Staff must have experience with ventilators, sedation, sepsis, pressors, DKA, heart failure, and respiratory issues.
Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips.
Common titratable or set rate drips in this ICU include:
- Vasopressors such as Epi, Levophed, and Phenylephrine.
- Inotropes including dopamine and dobutamine.
- Antiarrhythmics like amiodarone and procainamide.
- Anti-hypertensives such as labetalol and nitro.
- Sedatives including propofol and Versed.
- Pain management medications such as fentanyl and morphine.
- Anticoagulants including tPA and Heparin.
- Additional medications like insulin.
There is no designated charge nurse on each shift.
All equipment and support services are available within the ICU.
Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) are present, assisting with EKGs, blood sugar checks, procedures, and lab draws.
An Intensivist is in-house 24/7.
Respiratory Therapy is available around the clock for ventilator settings, intubations, and other services.
There are centralized telemetry monitors at each nurse's station.
Staff must arrive and clock in/out on time.
Lunch breaks must be clocked out for.
Scheduling allows for four requested days off within a four-week period.
Weekend shifts require four weekend days within a four-week time frame.
Two major holidays must be worked.
Floating to other units may occur, with reduced patient ratios.
Scrub color is navy blue.
A brief orientation specific to the unit will be provided.
Cancellation policies are outlined for assignment hours.
Charting is done through an electronic medical records system.
A BSN is not required for this position.
This role is set in an acute care setting.
