Must-Have:
Experience with vents, art lines, PICC lines, ports, chest tubes, drains, wounds, ostomies, OG, NG, PPE, identify arrhythmias, cardioversions, TEEs, post heart cath patients, defibrillator, pain management.
Ability to titrate drips including insulin, levo, cardizem, dopamine, dobutamine, TPA, heparin, amiodarone, lasix, and sedation drips.
Description:
The unit has 10 private beds.
The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2, sometimes 1:3 if low acuity.
Depending on the census, staffing is for 15-18 patients on the entire floor.
There are at least 2 ICU RNs on every shift.
Common diagnoses and types of patients include DKA, COVID, CHF, MVA, CVA, sepsis, overdose, and general medical issues.
Pediatric patients are rarely on the floor but pediatric RNs will manage them if necessary.
If a pediatric patient is vented, an ICU RN will be assigned to operate the ventilator.
A charge nurse will take patients, and a house supervisor is available in-house.
Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7.
Telemetry technicians are present on the unit, and RNs are required to read their own strips.
Shifts are 12 hours from 7 PM to 7 AM, with no self-scheduling.
Weekend requirements generally include every third weekend, with flexibility expected.
Holiday requirements include working every third holiday, with an expectation to work during winter holidays.
There is no call or standby requirement, except for voluntary cancellations.
RNs may float to PCU and occasionally MedSurg with a full patient assignment of 1:5-6 when floating to MedSurg.
Solid color scrubs are required, and no designs are permitted.
Natural hair colors are expected.
A two-day department nursing orientation is followed by one shift on the floor.
