Job Title: Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 Years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays Description: Candidates must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays. Unit is ICU with 32 beds (licensed for 40). Patient setup is in pods of 8. Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 2:1. Electronic Medical Record system used is Cerner. Charge nurse role available without patient assignment. Resource RN may take patient assignments. Typically has one nurse aide available during day shifts. Weekend requirement is every other weekend. Holidays are rotated with core staff. Scrub color for RNs is navy blue, and nurse aides wear hunter green. Nurses read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Accepts various drips including pressors, antiarrhythmics, and sedation. Ventilator management is included. Clientist or intensivist is in-house. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours, either 0630-1900 or 1830-0700. Floating may include tele and any emergency department ICU/tele holds. Floor-specific orientation includes time with an ICU educator and preceptor. Common diagnoses/patient types include higher level neuro, cardiac, sepsis, alcohol-related issues, and strokes. Additional skills may include managing ventrics and TBI with Camino ICP monitoring. No acrylic nails or gel polish are allowed during the assignment. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting system utilized is Cerner. A BSN is not required for this position. Trauma level and acute care settings are applicable. Nursing division applies to this role. 12-hour day shifts require flexibility, with first to float assignments expected.
